More about the Senior Engineer (Developer Experience) role at Quantium

Who is Quantium?

Quantium is a world leader in data science and artificial intelligence. Established in Australia in 2002, Quantium is a global team of more than 1,200 people across 14 locations with a unique blend of capabilities across product and consulting services to help businesses unlock value from data and analytics. Quantium partners with the world's largest corporations to forge a better, more intelligent world.

We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Engineering Tools team — the team responsible for the developer tooling and infrastructure that underpins how hundreds of engineers and data scientists build, test, and ship software at Quantium.

This is a hands-on role focused on deploying, scaling, and managing the platforms and tools our engineering teams rely on every day — from CI/CD pipelines and code quality scanning to secrets management and package storage. You'll work across a mix of self-hosted and SaaS tooling, managing infrastructure at scale and continuously improving the developer experience across the business.

The role sits in a small, high-impact team of engineers who've typically come from application development backgrounds and discovered a passion for making other engineers more productive. If you've ever been the person your team relied on to set up the CI pipeline, manage the GitHub org, or automate the painful parts of the development workflow — and you loved it — this role is for you.

How you will make an impact:
  • Deploy, configure, and scale developer tooling across the business, including platforms like GitHub, SonarQube, HashiCorp Vault, and Artifactory

  • Manage and improve CI/CD platforms and workflows that serve the entire engineering organisation

  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code to automate provisioning, configuration, and scaling of both self-hosted and cloud-based services

  • Manage cloud infrastructure (predominantly GCP) including compute, networking, and platform services that support developer tooling

  • Operate and administer large-scale code management platforms and the underlying infrastructure that supports them — including bare-metal and virtualised environments

  • Work across engineering teams to understand their needs, gather feedback, and deliver tooling improvements that scale across the organisation

  • Contribute to engineering quality within the team through strong practices, code review, and continuous improvement

The superpowers you'll bring to the team:
  • Strong experience with CI/CD platforms — not just using them, but setting up, managing, or administering them (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar)

  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred, but Ansible, CloudFormation, or equivalent is fine)

  • Solid cloud platform experience (GCP, AWS, or Azure) across IaaS and PaaS workloads

  • Experience managing or configuring code management platforms at scale (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or similar)

  • A good understanding of the software engineering process — how engineers build, test, and deploy software — and a genuine interest in making that experience better

  • Comfort working with third-party tooling — deploying, integrating, and scaling off-the-shelf software rather than building everything from scratch

  • Coding ability in at least one language (Python preferred, but we're flexible)

Nice to have (not required):
  • Experience in a dedicated developer experience, platform engineering, or engineering tools team

  • Background as an application developer who's transitioned into tooling or platform work

  • Experience managing infrastructure at scale, including bare-metal or virtualised environments

  • Familiarity with package management systems (Artifactory, Nexus) or secrets management (Vault)

What could your Quantium Experience look like?

Working at Quantium will allow you to challenge your imagination. You will get to solve complex problems using rigor, precision and by asking great questions – but it also means you can think big, outside the box and push your problem-solving skills to the max.

By joining the Quantium team, you'll get to:
  • Forge your path: So many of our team have moved around different teams or offices. You'll be in the driver's seat, and we empower you to make your career your own.

  • Find your kind: Embrace diversity and connect with your tribe (think foodies, dog lovers, readers, or runners).

  • Make an impact: Leave your mark. Your contributions resonate, regardless of your role or rank.

But wait, there's more!

We've got some pretty sweet perks:

  • Flexible work arrangements: Achieve work life balance at your own pace with hybrid and flexible work arrangements.

  • Continuous learning: Our vision is empowering talent to thrive.

  • Remote working: Embrace the opportunity to work outside of your assigned home location for up to 2 months every year.

Apply now and let's forge a better, more intelligent world together!
