Description of the job
Better and fairer care. Always.
St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia's health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.
We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent's kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.
Are you a strategic and dynamic technology leader with a passion for driving innovation and making a real-world impact? We're seeking a Head of Applications to shape and lead the strategy, governance, and performance of our application ecosystem, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our patients, residents, and staff.
In this pivotal, enterprise-wide role, you will report directly to the National Director Healthcare Platforms. You will take end-to-end accountability for the full lifecycle of all business-critical applications. This is a unique opportunity to directly influence our digital transformation journey by driving the adoption of modern, cloud-based, and interoperable technologies that improve clinical safety, efficiency, and overall staff and patient experiences.
This is a Permanent Full-Time position based in any of our Group Head Offices in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne on a hybrid working arrangement - 3 days a week in office and 2 days working from home. In this role, there will be a requirement to be available outside standard business hours for escalations as needed and may be required to travel interstate on a monthly or bi-monthly basis.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for St Vincent's enterprise application portfolio, ensuring alignment with our Digital Strategy and the St Vincent's 2030 transformation agenda
- Lead the end-to-end application lifecycle, ensuring platforms are secure, scalable, and well-managed from acquisition to retirement
- Drive the modernisation of our application ecosystem, ensuring vendors and internal teams deliver exceptional, cost-effective support that aligns with our SLAs and operational requirements with a SaaS-first approach where appropriate
- Build strong relationships and act as a trusted advisor to clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders, ensuring applications support St Vincent's broader healthcare objectives
- Guide and mentor a high-performing team of application specialists, product managers, and service managers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement that enhance application usability, performance, and clinical/business workflow to directly impact staff and patient experiences
- Oversee and manage the applications portfolio budget, ensuring financial sustainability and value-driven outcomes and strategic priorities
- Uphold the highest standards of service reliability and business continuity by overseeing the performance, security, and compliance of our technology and data assets. This includes embedding ITIL standards and leading rapid response and root cause analysis for all incidents and problems
Things that work for us:
- Proven experience in managing an IT Applications Services department, including in a SaaS/Web-based systems environment
- Strong knowledge of the business processes of hospital environments and a deep understanding of cloud service offerings, SaaS, and digital web and mobile applications
- Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing stakeholders at senior levels, with exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proven experience in identifying and managing risks associated with complex IT-enabled projects and programs
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Project Management, or a relevant field
- Membership of relevant associations such as the Australian Institute of Digital Health, Certified Health Informatician Australasia (CHIA), and Supplier Relationship Management Practitioner certification
Things that work for you:
- Ability to visibly see your impact on the business and its service
- Competitive salary packaging options
- Discounted private health insurance
