Be part of a supportive, engaged and dynamic team.

See yourself working with us:
The Technology Legal and Strategic Sourcing Legal teams work closely together to provide high value strategic advice to our internal clients to support and enhance CBA’s purpose and success. In this role you will work across both teams, spending 60% of your week in Technology Legal and 40% of your week in Strategic Sourcing Legal (reporting to the Managing Counsel in Strategic Sourcing Legal).
This position is offered as a fixed term contract for a duration of 6-9 months. In addition to supporting the Group’s competitive advantage in technology, business success and market value, we work with a range of teams across CBA that require strategic legal advice with a span across the entire organisation.
Do work that matters:
We are looking for a senior lawyer with extensive experience supporting the implementation of complex sourcing projects with a good grasp of technology, data, privacy and cyber security issues. Ideally you enjoy a dynamic environment and bring curiosity and humility to your work.
You will provide strategic, practical legal advice and be a strong and effective communicator, capable of working closely with a range of senior stakeholders across a diverse practice, both autonomously and alongside other lawyers.
We are a team of highly skilled and collegiate lawyers who enjoy the benefits of working in house close to the commercial side of transactions with some of the highest quality and most challenging legal work in the industry.
The work is varied and may include providing advice to CBA stakeholders on:
engagement of technology vendors and implementation of complex technology, as well as regulatory issues involving technology;
the drafting and negotiation of a wide variety of procurement contracts, including technology, consulting, professional services and other goods and services arrangements;
the impact of data protection and privacy laws on strategic initiatives within the Group;
diverse legal, governance and regulatory issues including in relation to artificial intelligence and cyber security; and
intellectual property, sponsorship and marketing arrangements;
As well as:
advising on elements of the Group’s M&A transactions, partnerships and joint ventures, including providing support for data separation, access and use;
contributing to improvements in work practices, precedents and knowledge management; and
development and implementation of the Group’s practices, procedures and policies, particularly relating to Technology Cyber Security, the Group Privacy Office and Group Procurement.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
8+ years relevant post admission experience in an Australian or international top-tier firm, with in-house experience in a large corporate, preferably at a financial services institution or in another regulated industry, also desirable.
An unrestricted and current practicing certificate.
Sound commercial and financial acumen and curiosity in commercial drivers and issues for transactions and partnerships.
Excellent technical legal skills including the ability to quickly grasp and resolve issues in complex matters and a willingness to continue to grow and expand your expertise.
Deep curiosity about emerging legal risks and issues in sourcing, technology, data protection, operational risk, critical infrastructure, privacy, cyber security and artificial intelligence.
The capacity to build excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues with simple and persuasive advice.
A team-oriented outlook, a “can do” attitude, integrity and sound judgment.
If this sounds like your next career opportunity, we’d love to hear from you!
