Export Finance Australia (EFA) is the government’s export credit agency.
We provide financial expertise and solutions to drive sustainable growth that benefits Australia and our partners. Through our loans, guarantees, bonds and insurance options we enable SMEs, corporates, and governments to take on export-related opportunities, and support infrastructure development in the Pacific region and beyond. Due to a recent internal move, we are seeking to appoint a an Associate Director to our Business Financing team.
Reporting to the State Director, NSW & ACT, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the customer lifecycle from start to finish and building relationships with existing and new customers across NSW providing strong customer service and growing sales for EFA.
The Associate Director is responsible for representing EFA within NSW. Working closely with the State Director to establish and implement a strategic plan for the state and leading activity within the states to win work, create enduring customer relationships and promote the reputation and solutions that EFA offers to the SME market.

- Map out the expected year in the life of a customer and identify appropriate selling opportunities through a call program.
- Manage a book of customer relationships and engage with those customers about their business to build trust, business understanding and a positive customer experience.
- Work with the National Director Structuring & Transaction Management and Portfolio Relationship team to structure deals and deliver documentation relating to all stages of the client life cycle, delegating activity to those teams and providing guidance and oversight on delivery.
- Work closely with the State Director to create a targeted and formulated marketing strategy for the respective state environments.
- Collaborate with the Structuring & Transaction Management team to manage customer conversations and interactions at all stages of the client life cycle, introducing the appropriate experts from the Risk function to support at the appropriate time.
- Lead key points in the customer lifecycle such as quarterly checks and annual reviews in conjunction with the State Director and Portfolio Relationship Manager/s as appropriate.
- Share market trends and identify risks and opportunities for customers in ways that help support their business.
- Work closely with the State Director to create a targeted and formulated marketing strategy for the state environment.
- Help the National Director Structuring & Execution to shape the ways of working and processes between Relationship Management and Portfolio Relationship and Lending Operations teams to improve efficiencies and customer outcomes.
- Engage in risk management activities on an ongoing basis, including due diligence checks to identify risks early.
- Support the State Director to deliver the state customer growth plan through attending events, meeting prospective clients and contributing to client related activity.
ABOUT YOU
- You will have at least five years’ experience in a similar role with another banking institution in the SME lending space having built up a good network of customers and referrals in the NSW region.
- Candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of managing customer relationships and selling solutions that meet customer needs in the SME banking sector.
- You will have a comprehenensive understanding of credit analysis in the SME banking sector and have strong credit writing skills.
- Candidates must have a good understanding of the factors impacting small and medium sized businesses with ambition to export. You must stay up to date with regulation, trends and economic issues impacting the sector and use insights to help shape customer centric solutions.
- Candidates must have a strong risk mindset and be able to make sense of complex data in order to solve problems in an efficient manner and to ask the right questions to help analyse issues and weigh up opportunities and mitigate risks.
- You will have excellent transaction structuring and management skills and experience and be able to demonstrate those.
- A positive “can-do” attitude is a must with excellent collaboration skills.
- Candidates will have strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
- A tertiary qualification in business or a related discipline is highly desirable.
